SLRD YesEarth Engages NCC Cadets in insightful lecture, discussion and debate on climate change, its impacts & sustainable solutions at Guwahati Sarusajai Stadium

· 2 min read

On December 13th, 2024 the team from SLRD YesEarth conducted an engaging session on the urgency of climate action and sustainability at the NCC event held at Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium. The event provided a unique platform for young cadets to discuss climate change.

The highlight of the event was an interactive session led by Abhijit Sharma, Mission Director, who captivated the NCC cadets with his insightful talk on climate action and sustainability. He emphasized the role of youth in driving meaningful change and encouraged cadets to be proactive in addressing environmental challenges. The session was highly engaging, with cadets eagerly participating in discussions and sharing their perspectives on global climate responsibilities.

Following the session, the SLRD YesEarth team organized a thought-provoking debate on the topic: “Should developing countries bear the same climate responsibility as developed countries?” Cadets were divided into two groups—one arguing in favor of equal responsibility and the other arguing against it. The debate saw enthusiastic participation, with cadets presenting well-reasoned arguments backed by facts and examples.

Those supporting equal responsibility emphasized the idea that climate change is a shared crisis requiring collective action. They pointed out that every country contributes to emissions and should work together to mitigate the impact. On the other hand, those opposing the notion argued that developed nations, having historically contributed more to global emissions, should take greater responsibility and support developing nations in transitioning to sustainable practices.

The debate fostered critical thinking and awareness among the cadets, helping them understand the complexities of global climate policies. The event successfully encouraged young minds to analyze sustainability challenges and reflect on their role in environmental conservation.

SLRD YesEarth remains committed to empowering youth and fostering informed discussions on climate action. The NCC event at Guwahati was a testament to the enthusiasm and potential of young leaders in shaping a sustainable future.
