· 2 min read

On 05 June 2024, YesEarth Youth Corps (an initiative of the School of Livelihood & Rural Development (SLRD)) and the NCC joined forces to host a dynamic youth engagement event in celebration of World Environment Day. Organized by 61 Meghalaya Girls Bn NCC, Shillong, the event took place at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, attracting cadets from 18 educational institutes. The occasion was graced by the presence of Brigadier Vijayant Mahadik, NCC; Col. Chouhan, NCC-Shillong, and several distinguished personnel from the Indian Army.

Dr. Himangshu Dutta, Scientific Officer at YesEarth, and Shri. Sandesh Bishnoi Kumar, Project Lead at SLRD, masterfully orchestrated the entire event, which featured engaging talks, thought-provoking discussions, and cadet activities. Shri. Sandesh Kumar began with a compelling presentation, emphasizing the significance of the World Environment Day 2024 theme. He eloquently addressed issues such as land degradation, desertification, and drought resilience, making complex topics accessible and engaging.

Shri Abhijit Sharma, Mission Director, SLRD-YesEarth, congratulated the YesEarth team and NCC cadets on the success of the program. He stated, “The success of this program underscores the incredible potential of our youth to drive meaningful environmental change. Their enthusiasm and commitment to learning and addressing critical environmental issues is truly inspiring. We look forward to organizing more such events to continue fostering environmental awareness and action among young minds.”
